Our model
Protect. Restore. Connect. Measure.
Bosque Marea focuses on strategic conservation interventions that strengthen entire landscapes, not just individual parcels.
Our approach is built around identifying ecologically important land, protecting it from further fragmentation, restoring degraded habitat, reconnecting wildlife corridors, and measuring ecological progress over time.
01
Protect
Protect the land that matters most.
Not every parcel has equal ecological value.
Bosque Marea prioritizes land based on its location within the broader landscape, including properties that can strengthen existing forest, protect vulnerable habitat, or reconnect areas that have become fragmented.
Strategic land protection can prevent development before an important ecological link is permanently lost.
What this can include:
Land acquisition, conservation agreements, landowner partnerships, habitat protection, and long-term stewardship.
02
Restore
Turn degraded land back into living habitat.
Protecting land is only the beginning.
Where habitat has been cleared or degraded, Bosque Marea supports native reforestation and ecological recovery designed to rebuild functioning rainforest over time.
Restoration may include native tree propagation, planting, natural regeneration, invasive species management, and continued stewardship as the forest matures.
The goal is not simply to plant trees. It is to rebuild habitat.
03
Connect
Restore the links between larger ecosystems.
Wildlife does not experience land according to property boundaries.
Animals need connected habitat to move, feed, reproduce, and adapt to environmental change.
A strategically located parcel can become a bridge between much larger forest systems.
Bosque Marea works toward a landscape where protected and restored properties function together as part of a broader wildlife corridor.
04
Measure
Know whether conservation is working.
Long-term conservation should produce observable ecological outcomes.
As Bosque Marea projects develop, we aim to measure indicators such as:
- hectares protected
- hectares restored
- native vegetation recovery
- wildlife detections
- habitat connectivity
- long-term stewardship status
Monitoring may evolve to include camera traps, ecological surveys, mapping, partner research, and other tools appropriate to each project.
The purpose is simple: understand what is changing and improve the work over time.
Strategic Conservation Capital
Put resources where they can create the greatest ecological leverage.
Bosque Marea's model is designed around targeted intervention. Instead of treating every conservation opportunity equally, we look for places where a relatively focused investment can strengthen a much larger ecosystem. That may mean protecting a parcel between two forests, restoring degraded land beside an established habitat, supporting native tree infrastructure, or funding the long-term stewardship required to keep a corridor functioning. This is how individual conservation projects can contribute to landscape-scale impact.
Built for the Long Term
Conservation is not finished when land is purchased or trees are planted.
Healthy ecosystems require continued stewardship, monitoring, local knowledge, and time. Bosque Marea is building a model designed to support conservation across decades, with each project contributing to a growing network of protected and restored habitat in Southern Costa Rica.
