Protecting Our Planet

About Us

Championing Conservation and Sustainability Efforts

Bosque Marea is a conservation organization focused on protecting and reconnecting ecologically important rainforest in Southern Costa Rica and other important ecological centers forest to sea.

Our work is built around a simple idea: protecting isolated pieces of land is not enough. Healthy ecosystems depend on connection.

As development, agriculture, roads, and land conversion fragment rainforest habitat, strategically located private parcels can become critical links between larger forest systems. Bosque Marea works to identify those opportunities, protect important land, restore degraded habitat, and strengthen the corridors wildlife depends on.

Our Approach

We focus on three connected areas of work:

Why Southern Costa Rica

Southern Costa Rica contains some of the most biologically rich ecosystems in Central America, including extensive rainforest, coastal habitat, rivers, wetlands, and important wildlife corridors. It is also a landscape where relatively small parcels of privately owned land can have an outsized ecological impact. Protecting the right property can help connect much larger areas of habitat. Bosque Marea was created to help act on those opportunities.

Conservation Built for the Long Term

We believe effective conservation should combine ecological value with thoughtful stewardship, strong local relationships, and measurable results. Our goal is not simply to acquire land. It is to understand how each project contributes to the larger landscape and to build a growing network of protected and restored habitat that becomes more valuable ecologically over time.

That means working collaboratively with landowners, conservation organizations, scientists, local communities, philanthropic partners, and others who share the goal of protecting Southern Costa Rica's biodiversity.

A Growing Conservation Network

Bosque Marea is beginning with targeted projects where strategic land protection can strengthen existing habitat and reconnect fragmented ecosystems. Over time, our vision is to create a growing network of protected and restored land, with each project contributing to a larger conservation corridor. One parcel may be small on a map. Its role in the ecosystem may be much larger.
